The Research of the Evaluation Method of the Muscle Fatigue in Elite Middle-distance Race Athletes’ Specific Movement

Purposes:On the need of improving national competitive level of middle-distance races, the purpose of this study is to set up a non-invasive, real-time dynamic and multi-site synthesized evaluation method to assess the degree of muscle fatigue, with the application of surface EMG signal analysis and processing techniques, and to provide a scientific basis for monitoring the occurrence time, position and the degree of the muscle fatigue in the middle-distance runners’training or competition.Methods:10elite male middle-distance race athletes as subjects was arranged to run on the treadmill(0°) at4intensities, namely60%,70%,80%,90%V02max as increasing-load exercise for4minutes. The surface EMG was recorded from the major muscles to analyze the characteristics of the time and frequency domain indexes changes. Use the time domain indexes to establish EMG fatigue threshold, use JASA (Joint Analysis of EMG Speetrum and Amplitud) to observe the degree of muscle fatigue, and compared with the individual lactate threshold. Record the sEMG of the major muscles in1500m distance level-best running. Assess the extent of muscle fatigue with the established method to verify its effectiveness.Results:1. In the increasing-load exercise, the time domain indexes iEMG, RMS, AEMG, ZCR overall increases with time and the load intensity increases, which AEMG and ZCR increases with fluctuation. Frequency domain indexes MF and MPF overall show a downward trend along with time and the load intensity increases. 2. The EMG fatigue threshold intensity established by the time-domain indexes in the increasing-load exercise distribute in71%-82%V02max intensity. The majority of muscles fatigue threshold obtained by JASA are at about70%V02max intensity, while the individual lactate threshold appears around79%V02max intensity, and the majority of muscles EMG fatigue threshold intensity has no statistically significant difference compared with the individual lactate threshold intensity (P>0.05), it shows an agreement between the three.3. During the1500m distance running, EMG fatigue threshold appears at the range of882-1210m, this range of distance is in the early stages of sprint. JASA shows that in0-500m, the starting and accelerating phase, some of the muscles already show certain fatigues, in600-1200m on route phase, the major muscles are in a good function, and in the1200-1500m sprint stage, the degree of muscle fatigue increases significantly.Conclusion:1. The method of using EMG fatigue threshold and JASA to evaluate the muscle fatigue of the middle-distance athletes in specific sports has been established, which is feasible, applicable and reliable.2. Compared to EMGFT, JASA is more exquisite to evaluate muscle fatigue.3. In the specific middle-distance race increasing-load exercises, the EMG amplitude usually increases as the load increases, while the frequency decreases as the load increases, but there are some differences between the muscles.4. The time/load sequence curves of time domain indexes iEMG and RMS has a characteristic of good monotonicity compared to aEMG and ZCR, which is more suitable for establishing the EMG fatigue threshold and JASA.5. EMG frequency domain characteristics of the changes in MPF and MF are basically the same, but MPF is relatively more stable for establishing the EMG fatigue threshold and JASA.
