Abstract


After India's independence , the Congress Party 's policy is to build a modern nation-state of India laid the foundation, but in recent decades , India's nation building process has faced an obvious dilemma, this outstanding performance for the sectarian conflicts and religious identity and tradition secular national identity conflicts. While there appears this situation Congress policy mistakes , the international environmental impact and other reasons, but its roots in India but there are modern and secular nationalist movement processes. India itself lacking the national consciousness of the soil , which is under British colonial nationalism arising under the impact , and thus its national consciousness is relatively fragile and special historical conditions in India under the leadership of the nationalist movement through religious widespread stimulate people's national consciousness , which was conducive to the struggle against the British , but deepened religious identity for future sectarian conflict foreshadowed. From the perspective of secular India's secular ideology passed by the West , but the process of secularization have their own characteristics. India's secular reforms on the one hand to face the obstacles of traditional domestic religious forces , on the other face of nationalism using religion to mobilize the masses needs. Therefore , India's secular reforms have gone a compromise compromise route. In India, more embodied the principle of secularism is religious equality instead of secularism , religious infiltration of politics makes India has established a modern nation-state difficult.
