China and Vietnam are closed neighbors, mountain by mountain, river by river. Twocountries have ancient cultures and long history. And for many other reasons, Vietnam isaffected such as cultural, economy, politics... so on, and among them is language, the mostimportant feature of culture.Idioms are an important component of Chinese and Vietnamese idioms is also influencedby Chinese idioms. Therefore, this impact leads to comparison and contrast between theVietnamese idioms and Chinese idioms.This thesis aims to study some following problems:First, find out the similarity and difference in definition and origin of idioms of twolanguages.Second, compare and contrast the idioms of two languages in respect of linguistic useand probe into the similarity and difference as well as analyze the pure Vietnamese idiomsthat do not exist in Chinese and vice versa. From this, cause of the similarity and differencewill be found out.Third, investigate and analyze the cause of similarity and difference in the view of thelanguage and other factors such as culture, nature, customs and traditions or the difference inthinking that has impact on the language.
