Abstract


With increasing environmental degradation, environmental protection hasbecome an important agenda of every country and desertification has become aproblem facing us all. The current paper report will reveal the real deserts to you.This is a translation project report on the fourth chapter of Deserts. Desertsisone of the seriesofA Very Short Introduction, published by Oxford UniversityPress. The author of the book, Nick Middleton, is a professor of geography ofOxford University. He presents a brief introduction to deserts in the book. Theoriginal text comes from the fourth chapter of Deserts: Desert peoples, in whichthe author mainly tells us how different peoples have adapted themselves to thedryland.This translation project was fulfilled under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The original text is informative text. In order to make the translated text smoothand coincident with the reading habit of target readers, the translator made use oftranslation methods such as restructuring, conversion, diversion and combinationand gave examples respectively. Through this project, the author found that whentranslating informative text, translator should always keep target readers in mindand make the translated text comply with the acceptance habit of the target readers.
