Abstract


Based on the research on the Southern Metropolis Daily, this paper investigatesits democratic participation function and with the theoretical view of the “MediaDemocratic Participation Role” discussed by Walter Lippmann and John Dewey,studies the interaction among media report, public opinion and public relation.Through this paper, the writer tries to summary the change and developmentcharacteristics of the Metropolis Daily’s democratic participation function during theChinese social transformation. From that, it can provide vivid and real evidence forthe link among media report, public opinion and public relation.Metropolis Daily’s democratic participation function mainly reflects in thepresentation of the public voice and the most direct results a fter the presentation of thepublic voice comes out to be the promotion on information opening and the effects onpublic policy. This paper selects classic cases from the above two aspects, which canshow the reporting process of Southern Metropolis Daily to typical events, and thendeeply analyzes the interaction among media report, public opinion and publicrelation. Using real evidence, interpretation and criticism and combining with theseveral methods, analyzing discourse and texts, this paper is expec ted to throughlysurvey these classic new cases.In the introduction, the paper brings out the research background, purpose,literature review and study approach and also illustrates the reasons why SouthernMetropolis Daily is selected as the study object and these cases in this papers rechosen..The first chapter, from theoretical aspect, discusses the relation between themedia and democracy and then further analyzes the Metropolis Daily’s democraticparticipation function.The second and third chapters, from the realistic aspect, surveys the MetropolisDaily’s democratic participation function. The second chapter, according to the‘Wenzhou Train Accidence’ and the Guangzhou ‘No.39Document’, invests the Southern Metropolis Daily’s democratic participation function from promoting theinformationopening. The third chapter, according to the ‘Water Pricing in Guangzhou’and the ‘Tang Hui labor reeducation case’, invests the Southern Metropolis Daily’sdemocratic participation function from affecting on the public policy.The forth chapter summaries the highlight and limitation of the SouthernMetropolis Daily’s democratic participation function and reaches the researchconclusion.The conclusion emphasizes the the significant meaning of the Metropolis Daily’sdemocratic participation function in boosting the democracy in Chinese socialdevelopment.
