Abstract


ASEAN are important partners of China in agricultural trade. Imports and Exports of both sides are growing rapidly in recent years, especially in vegetables. The Implementation of the China-ASEAN Early Harvest Program promotes bilateral vegetables trade substantially. In order to provide a deeper understanding of situation of China-ASEAN vegetable trade and increase the export of Chinese vegetables, we give a systemic analysis on situation of China-ASEAN vegetable trade and the impact factors behind the trade flows by taking Malaysia as an example. Then we provide several advices on how to strengthen the bilateral vegetables trade.First, we analyze the main characteristics of China-Malaysia vegetable trade and related changes from the aspects of trade flow and structure during the last two decades. Then we try to find the reasons that impact the trade. And finally we want to use a CMS model to decompose the trade changes into different reasons, then we can figure out which is the main reason which promote the trade.The main conclusions in this paper are as follows: vegetable trades between China and Malaysia are developing rapidly in recent years; China has been the most important source of vegetables that Malaysia imports; Our traditional advantageous varieties, such as mushroom and garlic, still occupy a dominant position; however, proportions of other varieties such as cabbage, cauliflower, potato increase; the export structure is becoming diversification; The whole competitive power of Chinese vegetables in Malaysia is rising, and the same indexes of special varieties are showing the trend of decentralization; Compared with main competitors of us in Malaysia market, we China is strong in whole competitive power, but week in special competitive power; The main reason that increases China-Malaysia vegetable trade is the demand of Malaysia market on vegetables, but the effect of our competitive power is decreased as the reason that our export structure is not fit for the demand structure of Malaysia.Finally, suggestions in four aspects: first, expanse investment of capital and technology in vegetable industry; Second, to establish and perfect an information reporting system of international vegetable market, and establish system of production information which include the whole process of production of vegetables; Third, pay more attention to the international marketing management of our vegetable, especially in the aspects of product package and promotion; Fourth, promote the reform of the management of export, provide an efficient and convenient export environment as soon as possible.
