Abstract

Nosed bat echolocation system represents the evolution of the most advanced constant-frequency (CF) bat groups , with a special Doppler compensation behavior (DSC). We use the pendulum device to simulate large Hipposideros flight status and real-time recording their echolocation signals , a detailed study of its Doppler shift compensation behavior of the various acoustic characteristics . Its resting state ultrasonic characteristics compared to leaf-nosed bats in the process of approaching the target Doppler positive compensation effects: frequency sounds made with the relative speed of change is related changes ; when the relative velocity is maximum, its call frequency relative frequency decreases resting up ; while the relative velocity is zero, the call frequency back to the resting frequency. And when the big shoe bat away from the target , there is a negative Doppler compensation effect : the relative velocity changes with frequency sounds positively related to changes in the relative velocity maximum call frequency , the higher up , but the same increase in speed compared to the value of the positive compensation value is much lower. In addition , the frequency of negative compensation effect than the positive compensation value is low, which may be limited by the physical structure bats and rare natural state conditions determined Doppler negative compensation . Uncover their secret lies in echolocation understand bat auditory - sound system integration feedback mechanism. Inferior colliculus mammalian auditory pathway as an important hub in the auditory information processing plays a key role ; while FoxP2 gene is currently the only known language features and voice -related genes . Therefore, we used gene silencing technology to prevent FoxP2 gene in a large area of the inferior colliculus Hipposideridae expression analysis of its leaf-nosed bats Doppler compensation behavior. Study found that leaf-nosed bats Doppler compensation acts not subject to IC area Foxp2 gene silencing effect . We speculate that the hypothalamic region FoxP2 gene is not involved in the bat's vocal control and auditory information processing , indicating bat auditory - vocal integration centers are not the next hill , and the inferior colliculus nor Doppler compensation line position control center.
