Abstract

With the development of industry and progress of sicence, resource saving and environment protection are two big problems faced today. Membrane separation process is a new type membrane separation, so membrane separation technique with higher filtration efficiency is widely regarded by people as a measure of separation and filtration. Influence of he quality of porous ceramic support on the structures and performances of membranes was discussed by analysing structure of inorganic ceramic membrane. At present, the porous materials applied in filtering are SiC、Mullite and cordierite and so on, but these materials are very expensive, resluting in the high cost of ceramic filter and hampering the large scale application. Quartz sand is very abundant in Hainan Province. Therefore, preparation of porous ceramic support in Hainan owns a very good geographical advantage from quartz sand. Furthermore, the results in this paper is good reference for exploiting natural resources in Hainan Province.Porous ceramic by addition pore-forming material process was prepared by means of semi-dry pressing and sintering at 1250℃. In the processing, quartz sand was used as main materials, wood charcoal as pore-forming agent, bentonite as binder and high temperature adhesive, respectively. The pore size, microstructure and phase identification of porous ceramic were characterized by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD).The effect of pretreatment, as well as the sintering process and additives on the performance for porous ceramic was investigated. The influence factors on the supports properties which were pretreatment of quartz sand, particle size and dry heating rate were investigated. The results show that the properties (shrinkage, porosity, breaking strength and so on) of fired quartz sand are better than unsettled quartz sand, the optimal particle size is 120μm, the best dry heating rate is 5℃/min, and the compressive strength of green body is 10.669 MPa, the porosity of sample is 40.43%, and breaking strength is 25.007 MPa.The influence factors of singtering process on the supports properties which were sinteing temperature, holding time and raising rate were discussed, it shows that the porosity decreased whileas the breaking strength increased with increasing the sintering temperature and the soaking time; the optimum sintering temperature are 1250℃holded for 30 min; the best sintering raising rate is 5℃/min. Under the optimum condition of sintering process, the porosity and breaking strength of porous ceramics are 29.33% and 17.051 MPa. Micrographs of SEM show that the uniform pore size distributions with the average pore diameters of 12.41μm. The main phase of porous ceramic is Quartz(SiO2), Mullite (3Al2O3·SiO2), Cristobalite (SiO2), Anorthite (CaO·Al2O3·2SiO2).Effect of additives which include pore-former, binder and sintering aids on the supports properties were studied. The results show:the porosity with different pore-forming agent is:Phosphate> Sodium dodecyl sulfate> Charcoal> Graphite >Starch, the breaking strength is:Sodium dodecyl sulfate> Starch> Graphite> Charcoal> Phosphate. Taking into donsideration the low cost and preparation process, Charcoal as pore forming agent, and the best content of Charcoal is 10%, the paricle size of charcoal is 120μm. The optimum of bentonite, potash feldspar and kaolin is 4%,10% and 10%.
