Abstract

The biomaterials are attracted attentions by various countries specially the advanced countries and obtained the special favors of global scientists because of their huge social benefit and economic efficiency. The biomaterials’ research and development have the extremely vital significance to the national economy and the social progress in a country where have large population of 1.3 billions but poor and laggard biomaterials. The biomaterials must contact to blood, tissue and tissue succus first after they are implanted into human body. The study of process between surface of material and cells and protein is the key study to biomaterials biocompatibility.A novel type of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) material was used as cell growing scaffold for the observation of the growth and morphology of fibroblast L929 mouse cells. The cell adhesion and proliferation was investigated using cell viability assay. The results indicated that MWCNTs and MWCNTs join in nitrogen exhibited a strong cellular adhesion and proliferation. A large amount of normal L929 cell structures on the surface of MWCNTs and MWCNTs join in nitrogen were observed. At the same time, protein adsorptions of three kinds of human plasma proteins (albumin (Alb), fibrinogen (Fib) and immunoglobulin G (IgG)) on material surfaces were studied with Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Together with the contact angle measure, the material blood biocompatibility can be conjectured. Then no any negative effects on cell growth on carbon paper and MWCNTs with and without protein adsorption can be observed. The result show that these materials not only have highlighted many exciting properties (such as cytocompatibility, high strength to weight ratio, high conductivity, etc.) for various implant applications, but also have well biocompatibility. These materials will turn into new biomaterials in the future, and these results provide experiment and science data for the more study.
