Abstract


Clothing as the object to literature description has a long history. Jin Ping mei is the founder book of long novels which talks about the city life, and it is close to low level people’s life on the characters description. The description of the clothing in the novel is not only the tools for descriping the characters, but also the pivoted the evolution of story. The novels open up the image of characters by clothing description, which the clothing is dress tools and connect tools, and then create marvelous characters in novels.The main needer and user of clothing is women in novels, and when descriping the dress tools, it can open up the different character and image in static state. But when descriping the connect tools to connect the story plots, it can compensate for the tools of dressing.Xi Men qing is the main character in the novel, his characters and image come through by his dressing. And also come through by the women’s dressing who stays around him in the novel. The opinion of Xi Men qing corresponds with the women on the taste of clothing.Dressing is the important part in daily life, it is bound up with the political、economic、and culture in the Middle or late Qing dynasty, and also connect with the creation of fiction or reality in novel.The novel shaped the characters by the description of clothing. Around the center of clothing, the unity of the author and the readers, the outlook and inner character of the figure, the clothing and the story, had been formed.
