The genus Sinacalia belongs to the family Compositae and widely distributes in the west of China, Gansu,Ningxia,Qinghai,Shanxi,Sichuan provinces,which is a Chinese endemic genus and consists of only four species.Some species of the genus have long been used as folk medicine for expectorant. anti-cough,antihistamine,antiradical and cathartic.Up to now,only the phytochemical constitutes of Sinacalia tangutica have been studied.In order to explore more plants with medicinal value in Sinacalia and develop the new herbal plant resources in China,we made systemic photochemical studies on the whole plant of S.tangutica, which were collected in Linxia City of Gansu province.From the MeOH extract,53 compounds were isolated by means of silica gel column chromatography（CC）,preparative thin layer chromatography （PTLC）,recrystallization etc.The structures of 51 compounds had been elucidated by spectroscopic methods,such as HRESIMS,EIMS,IR,UV,1D-NMR(1H,13C-NMR,DEPT,NOE),2D-NMR（1H-1H COSY,HSQC,HMBC）and in combination with comparison to the literature data or authentic samples. There were one alkaloid,sixteen sesquiterpenes,one monoterpene,eight triterpenes,six sterols,seven coumarins,one flavonoid,two lignans,two aromatic derivatives and the others.Five new compounds were elucidated as sinacalkaloid（1）,1β-methoxy-9α-hydroxycaryolanol（2）,7-O-6’-acetoxy-β-D-glucopyranosycoumarin（19）, 8-O-6’-acetoxy-β-D-glucopyranosyl-7-hydroxycoumarin（20）and stigmast-5 -en-7α,22α-d iol-3β-tetradecanoate（31）.Sinacalia and Cacalia have intimate biogenic relationship according to the plant chemotaxonomy. They would have similar chemical constituents from the experiences.To convenient for the phytochemical research on Sinacalia,this thesis reviewed on the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Cacalia and Sinacalia from 1923 to 2008.The results of this thesis would contribute to the research on the chemical constituents of Sinacalia and supply scientific evidences for searching new natural medicines.This study may also help utilize and develop the natural resources of our country.
