Abstract


Metaphorical phenomenon is very common in human language, their study began in Aristotle, during which there have been intermittent, but in the 1980s wave of metaphor research. Metaphor to explore the field of psychology, philosophy, cognitive science, neuroscience, pragmatics and other research caught from different angles. However, previous studies there is insufficient research methods and theoretical framework. The widespread use of metaphor in political discourse with the speaker trying to achieve political objectives are closely related. This article critical discourse analysis methods from cognitive linguistics, language learning, chapter linguistics multi-angle analysis of the function of metaphor in political discourse as well as metaphorical function realized. Through analysis we found that speakers use metaphor to explain the concept of abstract and difficult political, to make these concepts easier to accept, concise, and easy to remember; ideology to build through metaphor, arouse our emotions, to provide a new perspective and other ways to convince the audience; in seeking a compromise The metaphor has a role in building common ground; case may hurt the face, metaphors have to save face, and the implementation of Politeness Principle; metaphor coherent discourse. In order to more clearly illustrate the functions of the metaphor in political discourse, the paper selects the 2008 election, U.S. President voices of Democrats and Republicans announced the the campaign President's speech as a corpus case the function of metaphor in political discourse Analysis. The analysis results show that the use of metaphor in these lectures include dead metaphor, traditional metaphors and non-traditional metaphor three categories. Dead metaphors include some physical metaphor, traditional metaphors the plant metaphor journey metaphor, religious metaphors, the war metaphor, they take advantage of familiar things and experience so that people unconsciously accept their point of view, to strengthen the persuasive attack each other's point of view. The use of new metaphors to deepen the impression that the effect of the things they stated is reached by the tension between the source and target domains. Analyze the function of metaphor, metaphorical cognition, the underlying causes of social and historical mining speaker selection. Will harm the interests of our country in international exchanges, reflect the thinking of the metaphor used by some foreign political discourse. This paper presents a critical analysis of foreign political discourse in order to enhance the understanding of its possible deceptive; language level three strategies can be used to change the source domain: control components in the source domain, and the use of metaphor derivative expression, etc., in order to eliminate the negative impact of the original metaphor, and achieve other's comeback language effect.
