Abstract


In the eleventh five-year plan,Chinese government has set the shipbuilding industry as one of the priorities to be developed.With the fastest growth fueled both from overseas and home marine markets the government is looking to that China will be the biggest shipbuilder by 2015.However,nowadays there is a huge gap between the level of Chinese shipbuilding and that of first tier shipbuilders,Japan and Korea, just to name a few.In order to close the gap,we should put more emphasis on applying supply chain management,along with other newest managerial measures,to shipbuilding industry.In this paper,the author is trying to employ the analytical measure of supply chain management providing the detailed analysis of the logistics management level, especially in the process of building the high-Tech and high value-added new vessels including LNG tanker and 8530 TEU container ship,of a specific shipbuilding company which called H shipyard.In modern shipbuilding mode,current logistics function in H shipyard could not provide enough supportive roles to facilitate the construction of new type vessels.We will discuss more about the new requirements for the logistics developments,the challenges faced by the old systems,and the advices of the solutions of the renewal of the current logistics systems:for the H shipyard,in internal aspect,the logistic information system should be more integrated and controlled;in external aspect,the upstream suppliers including the steel and marine equipments suppliers should be more coordinated and developed as strategic alliances.
