Abstract


English reading ability as an important second language skills in college English teaching becomes more important. However, due to the deep-rooted traditional teaching methods, many local institutions of college English reading teaching still confined to the imparting of knowledge of the language. Students still exist many difficulties in reading in college English reading teaching situation is still not satisfactory. Learning strategies gradually become the hotspot of the foreign language teaching since the 1970s, and has attracted the attention of many researchers. However, many research studies on reading strategies one of the few, and even less for non-English majors local university research, it is necessary to study to make up for this deficiency. This thesis is based on a review of previous studies on the overall situation of the place of non-English professional use reading strategies research to answer the following five questions: (1) non-English speaking students English reading strategies generally how? ( 2) the English high score and low scorers in the use of reading strategies different? (3) What is the difference between the use of reading strategies in different gender? (4) arts and science students in the use of reading strategies, what is the difference? (5) whether there is correlation between the use of reading strategies and reading achievement? subjects for this study, 207 non-English major big Linyi Normal University sophomore. 100 boys and 107 girls. The research results show that the local university non-English majors frequency of reading strategies for the medium, the frequency of use of the frequency slightly higher than they use cognitive strategies metacognitive strategies, reading better idea of ??science. English scores high marks and low marks in the use of cognitive strategies there are significant differences in score in the reading process proactive use of articles inside and outside, can be more motivated to overcome a bad habit of reading. Of girls to boys in the use of reading strategies, there is no significant difference in the overall, but the specific strategies to use on girls more inclined to use the \ARTS students there was no difference in the use of reading strategies. Significant positive correlation between reading strategies and English reading level. The two strategies, a more significant correlation between the use of cognitive strategies and English reading level. On the basis of this study, the authors put forward some proposals on college English teaching.
