Abstract


Traffic problems are deteriorating more and more seriously because of the urbanization in many cities of the world. One of the important ways to solve this problem is developing public traffic. Scheduling management is the core business of the bus companies. Driver scheduling is an important step of public traffic scheduling, a scientific driver scheduling scheme can reduce operating costs and improve the whole efficiency of public traffic scheduling.The thesis first explains the definitions of the driver scheduling problem. Then the development of the driver scheduling problem is introduced. Following part of the thesis focuses on solving the driver scheduling problem using a GATS approach. The Genetic Algorithm combined with Tabu Search strategy (GATS) integrated with multiple genetic algorithm starting point and Tabu Search memory function and the ability to mountaineering features, mainly for the improvement of the initial solutions in the process. And at last, an example is given to prove the feasible of the approach. The result concludes that the present driver schedule has much space to improve, and a good schedule can decrease the duties number and the cost.
