Abstract


Zhang Chengzhi is a very important and controversy writer in new period, and also a significant wanderer and solitary in Chinese contemporary literature. Being n contemporary intellectual with complicated cultural background and strong cultural consciousness, his true inner spiritual feature and personal mentality should be intepreted reasonably from deep cultural aspect. From the theoretical perspective of "culture conditioning individual development", this thesis combines the particular text and gives a cultural analysis of his special personality and historical fate by way of "Stand Back".The author believes that Han nationality and Hui nationality "assimilate" each other and they differ in essence, each bearing its own inner and outer culture and hardly harmonizing. That leads to the formalization of the variable personalities of Zhang Chengzhi ; and makes him difficult to make decisions for being under long time contrdictory and conflicting condition; and finally results in his life tragedy of "homeless" . So this thesis gives a detail analysis from the following three chapters. From the aspect of his fiction, the first chapter discusses the "field independence "of Zhang Chengzhi’s religion personality through contrasting and studying Han and Hui culture essence "Holy’ and "Convention". It also proposes that, Zhang Chengzhi being an Islam descendant, his strong and super sacred personality is incompatible with utilitarian Han Confucian culture field. So Zhang Chengzhi choose the way of "Holy-Solitary-Rebel". From the aspect of his later culture criticism prose, the second chapter analyzes the factors affecting Zhang Chcngxhi’s personal mentality, consequently confirming his own intellectual value position and cultural personality of "mingle-regenerate" model featured as "Confucian Islam". Thesefactors are "son" of Flan and Hui civilization; the cultural model of Han Confucian civilization valued by worrying mentality and benefiting soceity, especially the tradition of our Chinese intellectual "Shi" and "Taoism". Placed in literary cultural context during transitional period of the end 20th century, the third chapter discusses Zhang Chengzhi’s inevitable fate of "inter-media in history" bearing during cultural transitional period as an intellectual with certain traditional marks.In summary, through cultural perspective study in every way, this thesis intends to understand Zhang Chenzhi, such a contemporary Chinese writer with different ethnical cultural background, who alone possesses special characteristics like mental temperament, spiritual model, and personal paradigm. This thesis also confirms his historical fate and his significant inspiration contributed to the rebuilding of culture and literature in new century.
