Abstract


Guang Yun was an officially ordered phonological book compiled by Chen Pengnian and Qiu Yong during the period governed by Emperor Song Zhenzong ,with the thorough inheritage of the phonetic system employed in the book Qie Yun, while Ji Yun come into being after Guang Yun got published for 31 years.The two books have some sameness on the numble of consonants and their application. However their differences on Fan Qie do exist. Therefore observing Guang Yun and Ji Yun’s similarities and differences in Fan Qie makes great sense to the research of the sound system in Ancient China.There is only 31 years between the compiletion of the two books. But sounds couldn’t change drametically in such a short period. That is to say, theoretically speaking, the two authors should have applied the same phonetic system. Actually, drastic distinction emerges is them. This paper has done a comprehensive comparison and contrast specifically to those differences.Thus, we get to know the sound system represented in Guang Yun varies from the actual sound system used in the period of North Song.While Ji Yun changes some Xiao Yun into consonants and vowels.On the basis of Guang Yun by way of amplification. Combination, transference and deletion to present the practical sound uses.Guang Yun only has 3874 Fan Qie. Ji Yun has added up to 4485. The paper analyzes in details and gets the features of Fan Qie in Ji Yun.1.Ji Yun has combined some consonants, which proved to be a functional way of altering sound system. The small changes in Ji Yun show that sound evolution through ancient times till today has started from the beginning of Song Dynasty.2.Ji Yun coorelinates Xiao Yun in some vowels which means some vowels merged with others from Song dynasty on.3.Some changes on the open and close vowels happen. Open vowels becomes close ones or vice versa. This trend also starts from Song Dynasty.4.The number of Xiao Yun has been enlarged. Changes in vowels and consonants result in the amplification of Xiao Yun.Besides, following the rule of to be as comprehensive as possible. Ji Yun not only succeeded Guang Yun, but also included a large variety of dialects of different times and areas .So that the Xiao Yun has been enlarged. It is a book of book in sound system inChina.All in all, Ji Yun embodies the innovation spirit in sound system depiction. It keeps going with time and toile, which presents the qualified academic standard that enables the author to capture the significant changes in sound system.The book turns out to be a rich and valuable phonectic material for us to study the history of Chinese phonetics.
