Abstract


Ambiguity in the English language everywhere. In this paper, the four dimensions, namely, speech language level, lexical level , syntactic and pragmatic aspects of English Ambiguity in the formation of the reasons for the study. A written statement written form , belies its voice feature . Therefore, the voice level ambiguity mainly by intonation, stress , tonal and homonyms triggered . Significance of intonation and accent are so different form factors and different tone accent read the same statement will produce different semantic interpretation , resulting in ambiguity. In spoken language , the tonal and homonyms is ambiguous reasons . Polysemy and the same shape ( homophones ) Different word lexical ambiguity is caused by the reasons . This paper explored polysemy and the same shape ( homophones ) sources Different words starting study the root causes of ambiguity generated lexical level , then these two factors caused by the ambiguity of the phenomenon specific analysis. Syntactic ambiguity caused by three main factors : a plurality of composition and structure , multiple functions and components are omitted . English, the syntactic component not only linear arrangement , and is layered . Sometimes, with a linear arrangement of syntactic correspond to multiple hierarchies , resulting in a syntactic ambiguity . Component function displays the relationship between the component and the component . Sometimes more than one component may act as a trigger syntactic ambiguity function . In order to avoid duplication or Coherence often be omitted . Omitting syntactic ambiguity also contributed an important reason . Pragmatic Ambiguity trigger illocutionary force more than one reason for the existence of two conversational implicature is generated , three are cultural differences . Among them, the article quoted Grice 's Cooperative Principle and Austin 's speech act theory of pragmatic analysis of the causes of ambiguity .
