Abstract


In recent years, a lot of attention has been paid to genre-based pedagogic approachin the teaching of English as a Second Language. English academic journal articles as anestablished genre are regarded as the most important channel for college students andscholars to acquire latest professional information, make research and exchangeacademic knowledge with foreign countries. As we know, academic journal articlesconsist of three main parts, that is, introduction, main body, and conclusion, of whichmain body is the most important component. This thesis takes 100 English journalarticles (argumentative exposition) on electric power industry as examples, usingstatistics to analyze and summarize their main generic features. And according toSwales’ CARS Model theory, the author induces the idealized cognitive structure ofmain bodies of English journal articles on electric power industry. Thus, based onschema theory, generic features and cognitive structure can be regarded as thebackground knowledge. Using them will help students and scholars read and writesuccessfully. The results of these analyses not only redound to science and technologyEnglish teaching, but also have practical value.
