Abstract


Since the reform and opening-up policy in China in 1979 , the influx of a large number of foreign film and television works . These video works plays an important role in international cultural exchange , which also produced a new field of translation subtitle translation . Relatively speaking , the subtitle translation studies , whether domestic or foreign , are very few . Several existing articles discuss film translation is not proposed system , a combination of translation theory to guide the film and television works in English and Chinese translations. This paper first introduces the study of English and Chinese video works , the importance of the history of film translation of this article . Then the article describes the definition and classification of the translation of the film and television works , and summarizes the six features and three types of limitations . Of use of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory , the combination of film and television works different cultural backgrounds , different circumstances , summarizes several can be applied in the subtitle translation practical strategies and methods in order to get high quality translation works . This article also talked about the role of the translator in the film translation activities and the role of . The last of the limitations of the the subtitles study of film and television work at this stage and put forward recommendations for its future development .
