Abstract


Since China’s reform and opening up, with the rapid development of global economy, thephenomenon of lacking sense of shame and confusing honor with disgrace has beenincreasingly prominent in the society. Scholars from all walks of life pay more and moreattention to strengthen the sense of shame research, especially the cultivation of collegestudents’ consciousness of shame, the improvement of college students’ moral quality and thepromotion of college students’ all-round development. The paper explores the sense of shameeducation and sense of shame status of today’s college students through the methods ofinterview, questionnaire and literature review.The paper defines the concept of shame, sense of shame and shame education. Layingthe main theoretical basis on the excellent traditional shame theory of the Chinese nation, theSocialist Concept of Honor and Disgrace, the ideological and political education theory andmarxism ethics for youth, aiming at shaping college students’ basic ethical and moral bottomline, the paper expounds the necessity and significance of strengthening college students’sense of shame education and analyzes many problems in the college students’ sense ofshame as well as its education. For example, the desalting of sense of shame, the fuzzystandard of honor and disgrace, the deviation of value orientation, knowing shame withoutself-accusation, ashamed of honor, proud of shame etc. From the mechanism perspective, thispaper puts forward that colleges and universities must improve the awareness of collegestudents’ sense of shame education and pay attention to it from system and policy. From theperspective of teachers’ construction, the paper comes up with some solutions from theseveral aspects of strengthening the teachers’ team construction, ideological and politicaleducation, education and teaching, taking the advantages of the network. From the perspectiveof the ideological and political education environment construction, the paper suggestsforming a resultant force to strengthen college students’ sense of shame from such aspects asfamily education, school education and social education. Pointing out that the sense of shameeducation should seek novelty and be close to the college students in content, closely combinethe traditional shame education and the "eight honors, eight disgraces" with the socialist corevalues system, the paper further clarifies the sense of shame standard for today’s collegestudents and proposes conducting the sense of shame education on the basis of inheritance,materialization, theorization and bottom line principle.
