Abstract


Because of the complexity and uncertainty of cultural factors, orthodox economics regards cultural factors as the same exogenous factors in the economy. With the development of economic theory, people are more and more aware of the importance of cultural factors on economic development. The new economics propose the word of "informal constraints", regard it as an endogenous variable on economic development. Marxist thought that economy and culture are the two wings of the development of human society. They are symbiotic and interactive relationship.The patriarchy from the initial sense is a kind of an ethics of family and family structure. Due to the requirement of maintaining domination of the country, it has developed the expressions of a national organization. Because of its long history, and powerful, the whole society has been saturated. It is a political culture and spiritual culture, it influence on people’s thinking and behavior imperceptibly. The patriarchy can be regarded as the core spirit of Chinese society organization. The main features of patriarchy are monarchial power, patriarchal and authority over the household. It deep-rooted in China and resulted in the two orientations in China’s political culture: One is the despotic power; the other is submitting of the people.The patriarchy is a Chinese traditional culture, which had a certain impact on the socialist market economy construction. The negative side, on the one hand, the general characteristics of the patriarchy and socialist market economy is in contradiction to each other, such as: succumbed to personality, the self-confrontation of privilege level, and competing on an equal level; the confrontation of "rule of Man" and "rule of law"; the confrontation of following old rules and technological innovation, Etc. On the other hand, the patriarchy also has a certain negative impact on the management of family businesses, such as: the implementation of parents in the enterprise system, relations replacing the system, unclear specific property, Etc. On the positive side, the patriarchy system has contributed to the family business running efficiently and cost-effective; In the course of reform from top to bottom, the patriarchy also reduces the resistance of reform and the cost of friction greatly.Culture has a very important role in economic development and development of society as a whole, but we can not conclude that culture determines economic development. In fact there are many factors to influence economic development, culture is only one of the factors and culture has an impact on the economy through a specific path. It has a certain limitation with cultural factor to explain the existence of economic. The finite of cultural factor on the impact of the economic development tells us that the patriarchal system and even traditional Chinese culture has a limited influence on China’s socialist market economy. Attempting to determine that the socialist market economy is the success or failure is unscientific from the perspective of the traditional Chinese culture.
