Abstract


Mr. Ye Tongxuan is a famous painter and art educator in Modern China. He was diligent in painting all his life. Although his life is short, he composed an extraordinary life in Art. Mr. Ye loved painting since he was very young. He used to learn from famous flowers and birds painters in China, such as Pan Tianshou etc. Mr. Ye is good at not only the enjoyable flowers and birds painting, but also the landscape paintings. With deep thought, rich poetry, fresh mood multiple painting methods and magnificent colours, his painting was unique in his style and influence on the Chinese painting in Henan Province in a very significant way. Based on the monographs, paintings and diary left by Mr. Ye and the interview documents on Ye Tongxuan, author probes into Mr. Ye’s art experience and discusses his important meaning in the history of Art in Henan Province.By the interview materials, this paper marshals the whole art life of Mr. Ye and divides his art life into three periods, which is the art initiation period, the actively explorative period and the mature period. It also classifies and clarities the art features and achievements in each period. Based on that, this paper analyses and studies the social background and the artistic atmosphere in Mr. Ye’s time and how they had influenced on Mr. Ye’s paintings. Among Mr. Ye’s paintings, this paper focuses on art feature of his flowers and birds paintings and landscape paintings. Meanwhile, it sums up the painting skills and theory of Mr. Ye’s Chinese painting. At last, this paper clarifies Mr. Ye’s excellent character and how it influenced on Mr. Ye’s art and relives Mr. Ye’s position in the art history of Henan Province and the achievement he had made.
