Abstract


The 18th century is a thriving period in the history of the sino-foreign cultural exchange when Chinese exports,such as silk,porcelain and tea so on won warm praise from western social,achieved a peak in this period.The western pictures that adapt to westerns’image of aesthetic increasingly appeared on Chinese porcelains in the 18th century,which was just for better meeting the demand of Chinese porcelains.This paper roughly review the most humane spirit western characters’images,and try to analyze and discuss the western characters’images on Chinese porcelains in the following several parts:Firstly I will give a classified introduction on the western characters’images painted Chinese porcelains in the 18th century,that is,the images will be divided into two categories:blue and painted porcelain respectively, and will introduce the different artistic characteristics between the two kinds of western character images.Secondly I will classify the western character images painted on Chinese porcelains into two categories:Christian, mythical figure and secular character,then will describe the western cultural implication within it and the marvelous development on form and content during the introduced-in course,which may reveal the precess of mutual influence,selection and acceptance between sino-foreign cultural exchange.Then I will analyze the western character images painted on Chinese porcelains detailedly from the concrete expression,and show some examples on the differences of layout,sculpt,color and brushwork between the images on paintings and on Chinese porcelains.The research on the western characters’images painted Chinese porcelains in the 18th century can not only help us to expand the knowledge scope of the kinds of decorative porcelains.but also deepen the knowledge of the situation of Sino-foreign cultural exchanges from the angle of adormental porcelain.However,because of the loss and unsaving of the paper painting and the silk painting,comparing the western characters on the porcelains with those on 18th’s paintings can enrich the art connotation of the pictures from this period.Therefore,collecting and analyzing the western characters on Chinese porcelains from 18th century has important theoretical and practical significance.
