Abstract


Voice is the simplest, most direct and natural way of musical expression. Chorus, as a method to present multiple voice parts by group singing, has been a most popular form of performance. The history of chorus can be derived from ancient, which began about hundreds of years ago in China. The artistic esthetics value of chorus, however, emerges as a new discipline in the field of vocal esthetics. This article focuses on the esthetics of vocal performance as part of the whole esthetics of artistic chorus.The author briefly introduces the motive of choosing this topic in the preface, and generally describes the relations among esthetics of artistic chorus, of artistic vocal music and choir as well as the relation between the focus of research in this article and esthetics of artistic chorus. The main part of this article discusses the beauty of symphonic choirs from four aspects. First of all, the author gives examples and explains how to present aesthetic perception through cadence on the basis of understanding of vocal structure in chorus and analysis of its primary and secondary level, dynamics, speed and comparison. Second, the author analyzes the factors of harmonious symphonic choirs, including the collaboration of voice parts, control of expression, configuration of volume of each part, and the harmony of chorus. Then the author briefly analyzes the usage of declamation in the chorus performances from four aspects which are aesthetic roles of declamation in chorus, the expression of declamation, artistic treatment of chorus declamation as well as mood and modal in the declamation. The author tries to discover the artistic aesthetic function lying in the perfect combination of literature and music and through declamation in the chorus. Last but not least, this article illustrates the concrete aesthetic embodiment of symphonic choirs from four aspects of strength, tone, chorus and expression in this form of performance.Chorus needs aesthetics, which enhances the requirement of public to the art of chorus, improves the performance level of choirs, and meets the need of new age and better development. Investigation of the aesthetics of choirs contributes to better mastering the rules of this art and giving more touching performances that express our inner world.
