Abstract


This research focuses on several construction enterprises which are qualified to be general contractors in the city of Shanghai. The researcher analyzes these enterprises’ knowledge and understanding on project management models in the current construction marketplace, leveraging literature summary, survey by questionnaires and focus groups. Challenges and problems of project management faced by these enterprises are identified, analyzed and attributed to enterprises’internal resources, project control mechanism, operational model, investment on construction technology.The researcher tries to provide solution to the enterprises’problems and lists detailed tactics of improvements, i.e. integration of internal resources of the enterprise by establishing marketing-oriented internal marketplace; strengthening the project control by restructuring of organization; change of operational mindset by participating in the capital market; advancing core capability by investing on construction technology and IT system. The researcher believes the strategy and these tactics, if implemented properly, could improve the enterprises’management effectiveness, help them find right market segment and enterprise sustainability.
