Abstract


Poincare’s thought of philosophy of science has a bit messy, but the main focus is on conventionalism and Realism. Poincare is the founder of the Conventionalism. In his view, the geometry axiom is to neither determine comprehensive nor the experimental facts, they are convention. The principle of mechanics is to establish on the truth of experiment, and it is suitable to convention and postulation of the entire universe. Convention is the product of mental activity, however, the convention is not entirely arbitrary, and is not from our imagination, the choices of convention are guided by the experiment. the principle of convention and general is natural and direct summarized by the experiment and special the principle. Poincare fully affirmed the inherent value of science and considerde that the scientific development has continuity and succession. In the change of scientific theories, the true relation will dissolve in the more advanced harmony and can be retained. In his view, the true relationship between the reality object is the only reality that we can derive. Science can be achieved is not as simple as dogmatist envisaged things themselves, but only the relations between things. In addition to these relationships, it is known that unknown reality does not exist. The cornerstone of the relation was‘real relationship’concept. True relationship is really something that we can confirm, is that all will always remain the truth under the garb, and is the common things of all author, as the names of things, it varies with the author. Conventionalism and Realism of Poincare come to together. conventionalism and Realism are generally believed that it is difficult to reconcile. However, as he made the conventionalism limited on ontology, logic, experience and scope, they coordinated. Poincare have specialized research on the issue of scientific methodology. On the assumption, Scientific Beauty, Simplicity, intuitive and inventions, he has brilliant and insightful discussion. Poincare also research on the form of theoretical physics and the characteristics of the system, and found the psychological problems. On the mathematics Philosophy, in the case of discovering the mathematical paradox Poincare revives the intuitionism, and form a wide range of developments, his position made him became a mathematical intuitionism pioneer. These fields are marked with the conventionalism of his mark. Needless to say, Poincare’s scientific philosophy is not perfect, his efforts on the unification of conventionalism and Realism left us with many lessons to learn from and refer.
