Objective: cyclooxygenase (Cycloxygenase, COX) is the key rate limiting enzyme in the arachidonic acid synthesis of prostaglandin (PG) in the initial step. COX-2 is an inducible enzyme associated with inflammation or tumor type diseases. Nitric oxide (NO) is an important factor in regulating osteoclast activity. Nitric oxide synthase (nitric oxide svnthase, NOS) is a key enzyme in the synthesis of nitric oxide. There are three types of human body found NOS which the type Ⅰ NOS is mainly distributed in the brain and nerve cells called brain type (bNOS) or the nervous type (nNOS);-type NOS II epithelial cells distributed in macrophages, and inflammation of the area around expression within the cells stimulated live only known to induce type (iNOS); Ⅲ type NOS is present in the cell membrane of vascular endothelial cells, called endothelial type (eNOS). iNOS induced by hypoxia, inflammation and other factors and the large amount of nitric oxide, the pathophysiological processes involved in the body. The study of human periodontal gum tissue cyclooxygenase -2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression change. Methods: gingival 15 cases, 14 cases of gingivitis gum tissue of 15 cases and orthodontic or third molar extraction normal gingival tissue sliced ??COX-2 and iNOS immunohistochemical staining, observation and comparison COX-2 and iNOS expression changes in the gum tissue. Results: The expression of COX-2 in normal gingival tissue almost no expression, gingivitis and periodontitis gingival tissue were positive expression. Between the normal group and the gingivitis group showed no significant difference (P gt; 0.05) between the normal group with periodontitis group compared with a significant difference (P lt; 0.05), gingivitis and periodontitis groups was no significant difference (P gt; 0.05); ② iNOS in almost no expression in the normal gum tissue, gingivitis and periodontitis gingival tissue were positive expression. Comparison between the normal group and the gingivitis group, a significant difference (P lt; 0.05) between the normal group with periodontitis group compared gingivitis and periodontitis group significant difference (P lt; O.05) There were no significant differences (P gt; 0.05). ③ gingivitis and periodontitis, the positive expression of COX-2 and iNOS expression between the two groups have a significant difference (P lt; 0.01), and with a different degree of inflammation, iNOS expression is stronger than the expression of COX-2. Conclusion: COX-2 and iNOS expression was elevated in periodontal gum tissue, may become one of the influential factors in periodontal tissue destruction and alveolar bone resorption.
