Abstract


ObjectiveTo study the distribution patterns of protein gene product (PGP9.5)、c-terminal peptide of neuropeptide Y (CPON)、neuropeptide Y (NPY) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) immunoreactive(IR) peptidergic nerves in adult human testes.MethodsFour testes from adult males were processed for 5-um thick frozen sections. Antibodies against PGP 9.5、CPON、NPY and VIP were used for immunohistochemical detection of peptidergic nerves in the human testes.ResultsPGP9.5-IR fibers are mainly distributed in the testicular interstitium, in close association with seminiferous tubules and Leydig cell nests. The majority of the CPON-IR and NPY-IR nerves are observed around intratesticular blood vessels, but the walls of the seminiferous tubules are also innervated. The density of CPON and NPY immunoreactive nerve is lower than that of PGP9.5.VIP immunoreactive nerve was absent in the testicular parenchyma.ConclusionThe presence of peptidergic nerves in the human testes provides anatomic evidence for involvement of the spermatic nerves in spermatogenesis regulation.
