Urban public facilities not only meet the needs of people’s life, improve the urban functions, and also reflect the spirit and cultural identity of the local city, they’re the direct embodiments of strength and image of the city, also are the continuation of the people’s behavior in urban space. In the past long time, because of the low attention to the construction of urban public facilities for some reasons, result in lots of problems, such as the low development, unreasonable design, imperfect types, serious deficiency of numbers, and difficulties in the use and management work. Therefore, how to improve the design quality of urban public facilities, to meet the requirements of rapid development of urban environment, so that public facilities could be better serve people, it is the focus point of this thesis to research and discuss.Design management is a new subject that combining two science of design and management, widely used in various areas of product design and development. Facing lots of problems of urban public facilities, this thesis tries to construct a preliminary research system of design management of urban public facilities, from the perspective of design management conception, and explores the corresponding strategy of design management, hoping to promote development of design of urban public facilities.Based on the literature reading and case study, firstly define the design management of urban public facilities, overview the general situation of urban public facilities, to analyse the existing problems, and explain the characteristics of urban public facilities. Frome the concept of design management, thesis constructs a preliminary research system of design management of urban public facilities, there are three level of macro public policy, meso project managemen and micro design implementation. And according to above analysis and research, propose the corresponding strategies of design management, macro grasp the public policy, meso scientific project management and micro professional design implementation. Finally, taking the public facilities of World Expo 2010 Shanghai as a case, analyse its methods of design management, to further clarify the above strategies. So as to promote the future development of urban public facilities.
