Abstract

In recent decades, the English reading strategies attracted the interest of many scholars, the research focuses on the use of reading strategies, but they ignore the awareness of the role of the reader in the use of reading strategies. In this way, the teachers can not understand the reason students are unable to successfully use or conscious use of strategies. The teachers can not help students to establish clear reading plans and objectives, the students do not know how to monitor and manage their own reading strategies in reading and reading. The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students to use reading strategies. The survey is 196 Jiangxi Ji'an County Middle School Middle School students. They fill in the required reading strategies metacognitive awareness survey the questionnaire (MARSI, Mokhtari, and Sheorey was prepared in 2002), and participated in the English proficiency test. The questionnaire data with SPSS statistical analysis, in order to be able to find the students take what reading strategies as well as awareness of the extent to which the reading level in the use of strategies. The results of the study are mainly four points: First, students use the strategy level to Medium; Secondly, students are more inclined to use problem-solving strategies, and then in turn the overall strategy and compensation strategy; girls in the overall strategy use and three show a higher level of class strategy use. Girls than boys are more careful and more attentive to consider the issue, while the more adventurous boys than girls, more bold. Fourth, metacognitive awareness and language proficiency of reading strategies are closely related. The reason is that I think the above phenomenon: First, students in the area of ??teachers as the absolute authority, to develop the habit of unconditional obedience teachers, students' critical awareness by the great depression, reflected in the questionnaire, criticism awareness strategy use; Secondly, the different men and women because of gender differences in social status, learning concept the different strategies used by tendencies; Finally, in the fierce competition between the students of this school, the sense of cooperation between students. Based on the above findings, it is recommended that teachers should be more understanding of students and to take appropriate measures to help students improve their reading levels. Reading strategies training, teachers should encourage students to strengthen mutual cooperation; same time, teachers should be treated differently to different students; Finally, teachers should be students of strategy mentor to instil in students the concept of metacognitive awareness; teachers should focus on training students to use the ability of the different strategies. The only way to truly improve students' reading ability.
