Abstract


Either in spoken or written language inside phrases verbs because of its ubiquitous universality is often considered the most essential ingredient in modern English, a language which makes understanding and proficiency in the application of this language in the form learners mastered the English language are essential conditions. However, English teaching embarrassing, the root cause of the actual process of making the second language learning, the Chinese students to avoid the use of English phrases verbs are very common, therefore, to find out the cause of this particular phenomenon occurred it is extremely important to provide some suggestions for English teaching practice, empirical research conducted in this paper is to be done to achieve the above purpose, a meaningful attempt. Of this experiment, a total of eighty-five average age of the 20-year-old staff selected as the test object. In this eighty-five people, non-English majors more than seventy artificially for a general university student at the second grade and second grade. Of their achievements in the National College English Test (Old Questions) level of understanding of English proficiency, as well as in day-to-day teaching activities, the division of the learners in the upper and the lower level of the two languages ??and them compiled into six groups were involved in covering multiple choice, translation memories test three experimental; translation test will take into account the subjects related to the Chinese language proficiency the recall test content hardly there are no native speakers of English, the fifteen American subjects only participated in this study on the multiple-choice test. As for the experimental material, including two different categories of phrases verbs, only to have the literal meaning of the phrase verb, the other for both metaphor extended the meaning of the phrase verb. Variable analysis of test results show that, compared to American subjects, Chinese English learners to avoid using the phrase verbs higher frequency, they are more inclined to use the phrase appears in a single word form verbs on peer; another in Chinese English learners to participate in this experiment, regardless of their level or standard, that is, whether they are in the upper class or the middle and lower classes, they all prefer to use only with the literal meaning of the phrase verb, and both non-extended or figurative meaning thesaurus.
