Abstract


After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Russia as the former Soviet Union’sbiggest republics inherited the former Soviet Union. In from behind the scenes to thefront of the process, has experienced loss, anxious and depressed. After the cold war,Russia’s power status and glory with the collapse of the Soviet empire and ashes toashes, gone. Russia in the face of the world ’s most powerful, control the widest rangeof military and political alliance--the North Atlantic Treaty Organization step by step,multi-faceted encirclement, deeply worried and worried. The Russian Empirepsychology and big glory suffered the biggest challenge, Russia has had to face theirown reduced to a " second-rate" the fate of the country. In the United States led NATOat the end of the cold war, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, and did not likethe Warsaw Treaty Organization as to collapse and disintegration; but in the UnitedStates of America ’s cold war thinking and idea of hegemony to survival; NATO in thelast century90’s a godsend in solved its positioning and survival dilemma, havebecome more powerful and prosperous. In the face of their former stable, powerful,now decline, decline of the Cold War rivals, and no mercy and compassion; but thereal opportunity to seize the Russian decline, and actively absorb the East CentralEurope and the former Soviet republics to join NATO, eroding and compression ofRussia’s geopolitical strategic space; in the NATO experience after the cold war threeexpansion, its eastern and northeastern border with Russia is already basically, Russiahas felt the hitherto unknown pressure and difficulties; however, NATO did not stophis expanding pace, in NATO’s future expansion plan, Russia’s backyard, CIS andCentral Asian countries will be gradually pulled into NATO. From Yeltsin toMedvedev, the Russian government and people for the nation to rise and revivalefforts. Russia from the independent "leaning to the west" diplomatic strategyconstantly awake, after constantly looking for and difficult exploration of their ownnational positioning process, established the focus on the East-West balance,multipolar, comprehensive, flexible, pragmatic diplomacy in the new era of strategic.The Russians" the soul of a nation"," big dreams" awakened, former polar bear in the future journey all the way, be fearless.The purpose of this paper is through the analysis of Russia after the cold war andNATO in the interaction and cooperation in the course of the game to contend withthe specific contents and basic train of thought after the cold war, revealing theRussian North both compete and cooperation the essential features and thefundamental reason. The Post-Cold War NATO and Russia compete and cooperationbasic reason and substantial features analysis and understanding, is helpful for us tograsp the times development pattern and feature, is helpful for us to deeply understandthe world much polarization trend of power distribution and balance, for our currentand future treatment of big power relations and confront challenges to provide a goodreference.In this paper, in order to Russia after the cold war and NATO to contend withcooperation of the historical development of the main line, through the aspect of thecombination of two aspects to construct the different phases of relationship betweenRussia and NATO contend in cooperation with the content and essence. Besides thefrontier and conclusion, is divided into four parts. The first part discusses the Yeltsinera Russian North cooperation and contending processes and essence; the second partdiscusses the Putin period, Russia north relation development and the Russian northsides of the struggle. The third part discusses the Medvedev period Russia-NATOrelationship queasy twists and turns of the essence and reason. The fourth partdiscusses the Russia-NATO cooperation after the cold war the realistic foundation andthe basic reason.
