Abstract


“MingYikao”written by ZhouQi who lived in Qichun county of Hubei province in Ming dynasty is a type of literature consisting of short sketches.In terms of its content,this book is mainly about exegetical studies concentrating on the critical interpretation of ancient texts and retains a large number of exegetical material. In addition to the interpretation of the language of ancient literature, the book also recorded some colloquialisms and researched into the history of some ancient artifacts, laws and institutions, customs, etc.The recollection and reorganisation of these exegetical materials not only help us understand the ancient literature better, but also facilates our interpretation of social life in all respects in ancient time.Besides the summary of its exegesis achievements, this paper also points out the deficiencies of MingYikao .We seek to clarify these issues not only related to traditional study of exegesis but also refered to the knowledge of ancient historical cultural .Generally speaking,this paper could be divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the preface, mainly takling about the reason for choosing the title and resarching methods used in this paper.The second chapter describes Zhou Qi’life experiences and circulation of MingYikao’versions.The third chapter discusses the background and the style of MingYikao. The fourth and the fifth Chapter are the main body of the whole paper. The fourth chapter mainly introduces the exegetical achievements of MingYikao. The demonstration was conducted from four aspects: First,rsearching into the colloquial vocabulary and literature words; Second, solving a number of exegetical issues according to characteristics of form and meaning of Chinese characters; Third,giving the informative and full demonstrationto to the interpretation of the entry ;Fourth, contributing to the research of the traditional history and culture. The fifth chapter mainly introduces the exegetical mistakes of MingYikao and make some research and discussion about the problems. The problems are showed in five ways:First,misunderstanding the textual meaning of the word for being shackled by the form of Chinese characters.Second:giving wrong explations for being confined by the dictionary Shuo-wen chieh-tzu.Third: suspecting the previous saying and trying to find maverick solutions to the problems.Fourth:following the concept of yin and yang,lacking of scientific basis;Fifth:other aspects of mistakes, including errors caused by wrong punctuations, citing without detailed investigations of the literature and failing to mark the quotations, etc.ZhouQi’MingYikao was widely quoted since it came into being. I wish my achievement will provide a useful reference when other scholars doing the relevant researches.
