Abstract

In English learning, the syllabus requires students to master the four basic skills of speaking and writing. Where reading is obtained from the written language is a complex intellectual activity information is obtained from the written language meaning mental process. Reading is an extremely important part in English teaching, it is the important way for students to obtain the knowledge of foreign languages ??and skills. As Carroll said, the most important aim of learning a foreign language is to learn to read. Reading ability in a foreign language ability is considered to be the most stable and lasting ability. However, for most students, how to improve reading ability is a very difficult problem. For students in addition to the lack of vocabulary grammar and other aspects of the more important is the lack of knowledge of cultural geography and other aspects. The schema theory formation can be traced back to the sixties of the last century, Goodman proposed a bottom-up theory, he read as a passive decoding process. Schema theory, however, introduced to China nearly two decades of things after this time, many foreign language theorists the application schema theory of the research conducted in the foreign language teaching. But that which many studies confined to the theoretical level, and colleges and universities, especially in the foreign language teaching is not much value in the foreign language teaching in secondary schools. In view of this, we mainly explore the schema theory in junior high school English teaching in practice the feasibility and operational methods. High school students some of the more common phenomenon is the syntax of the language is rich in knowledge, but they lack the reading pre-existing knowledge can help. Schema theory in order to experiment in the teaching of school teaching a four-month experiment, 100 third grade students participated in the experiment. Of an experimental class is divided into two parallel classes a control classes, the experimental class using the schema theory guiding reading instruction, the teaching process is divided into three steps: activation schema, schema activation associated with the content before teaching, so that students learn to use known knowledge to help understand the new content; second step using the schema theory knowledge to explain the text, not only attaches importance to the learning of language knowledge, but also to guide students in discourse analysis, a comprehensive understanding; The third step is to consolidate schema, check reading comprehension degree of help students to consolidate what has been learned. Control classes using conventional teaching methods. Including learning words, word for word translation. The data consist primarily of pretest and posttest scores of the control and experimental classes classes. Data analysis using SPSS. The data analysis showed that the experimental class students' English reading scores than the control classes to improve large range of experimental classes and control classes the third two parallel classes, the first two days of liters junior English grades average the experimental class group 75.62, and control classes classes 76.14, pretest scores 33.14 second class 33.78 intervals, and then test score of a group of 40.46, second class 33.14. In short, in this paper, the author carefully review the schema theory confirmed through research papers schema theory in guiding role in the teaching of English reading. I hope to have a positive meaning to the English reading teaching, and hope to do more in-depth comprehensive research in this regard.
