Abstract

One of the classed literature titles is to write the images of mother. After the founding of People’s Republic of China, the contemporary Chinese women novelists have construct many kinds of mother images.Before the mid-80s, as a result of social politics reason, what the women novelists construct is the mothers of class and the politicizational mothers. After the mid-80s, women novelists began to construct negative mother images, such as indifferent mothers, cruel mothers, spied mothers, the desire mothers and so on.They also construct absent mother to seek for the ideal mother.Women novelists are often unable to understand and show mother’s character, which can be expressed from the following aspects: First, they are often unable to know the heart of a mother by writing with scotoma of a daughter. And their evaluations about mother are almost the same to the man’s. Second, in the novels, mother’s acting area usually is around their homes. The relationship between mother and daughter overtop all the other social relationships of mother’s. It is very difficult for feminine novelists to express the female’s common experience by individually writing. Third, in order to give prominence to mother’s performance, women novelists often neglect father’s or male character’s function and hope to set up an ideal Female Kingdom. But this only is their hallucination. Finally, mother in women novelist’s eye is usually an idol or a symbol, even only exist in their intuition or hallucination.The reason of above phenomena is that they can not fit the rapidly changeable social culture, that they are confined by their experience and astricted by traditional culture unconsciously, that they are immature in their minds.
