Abstract


In recent years, the research of "v — v" on grammatical significance mainly focus on synchronic level, and the diachronic research is weaker.From Song dynasty when "v — v" was produced to Qing dynasty when it quickly developed, the clue to its development on grammatical significance wasn’t clear. So, this thesis mains to discuss the development of "v — v" on grammatical significance in Song Yuan Ming Qing.The whole paper includes four parts.The first part is a preface, which simply introduces the research value, current research situation, the research approach and material applied by this thesis.The second part is an emphasis of the paper. Firstly, the author observes and analyzes how the quantitative significance of "v — v" develops from Song to Qing. In the earlier of Song, "v — v" is a structure of verb and measure word which means fixed quantity(once), later, parts of "v — v" become verb reduplication, meaning indefinite little quantity. The indefinite little quantity can be divided into degree quantity(lightness) and time quantity(transitoriness), both of which can be more differentiated. In Yuan dynasty, nearly all of "v — v" develop to verb reduplication .And the indefinite little quantity gave by verb reduplication "v — v" in Yuan dynast also includes times quantity(few) besides degree quantity(lightness) and time quantity(transitoriness).At the same time, verb reduplication "v — v" begins to have the modal significance of circumbendibus, and so on. "v — v" in Ming Qing is similar to that of Yuan either in grammatical characteristic or in quantitative significance. Secondly, the author analyzes the subgroup of verb, because "v — v" constituted by different subgroup indicates different significance. For example, "v — v" composed by durative verb means time
