Abstract

With the continuous reforms of economic and higher educational systems, the problem of poor students in colleges and universities is particularly prominent. It is not only a social problem-concerned about by the authority, the school, the family and the students-for government to solve their economic difficulties and help them out of hardships effectively, to complete their academic education smoothly, and lead them to society with sound mental health and integral personality and stand on the same start line with other students; but also one of the essential issues for the ideological education and students’ management in colleges and universities. Meanwhile, it is obvious that such problem has a direct influence on the reality of fair education, bringing unstable social development; the reality of the people-oriented scientific concept of development and the construction of a harmonious society; as well as the smooth accomplishment of students’education and their physical and psychological health.Therefore, it is meaningful, both theoretically and practically, to scientifically and systematically study the problem and do researches on the ways to solve the problem of poor students in colleges and universities. It is shown that poor students in colleges and universities in China have accounted for 20% of the total students, most of which are come from rural areas. In order to get to know the current situation of the rural poor students, the author has made a questionnaire on the rural poor students in Yantai University, finding it out that they have many problems in their adjustment in study, life, psychology, employment and etc. It is not only an important task for school to solve these problems, improve their overall quality and competitiveness, and lead them to society with smooth employment; but also the reflection of humane care of the higher education in depth. This thesis focuses on the necessity and urgency of the solution of the problem of the rural poor students in colleges and universities, from the aspects of society, higher education, ideology as well as individual growth, which is the need of social stability and development, of reforms of higher education in depth, of improvement of the effectiveness of ideological education, of healthy growth of poor students in colleges and universities. It is presented in detailed analysis about the rural poor students in terms of the causes of poverty and the current situation, defining "poverty" from the angles of economy and social science. The structure and the standard of defining of the rural poor students in colleges and universities were explained, and the causes in the light of geographical environment, family, school and individual also were analyzed in this thesis. In addition, the methods and ways to solve the problem and in proposal of its relevant measures in the aspects of funding the poor students, reinforcing the education ideologically, psychological and mentally, promoting employment and etc. were suggested, and which would provide a good theoretical basis for the solutions of poverty problem of rural students in colleges and universities.
