Abstract


The pun is the Rhetoric common literary discourse . Compared with English , Chinese, due to its own characteristics , its puns (including some twisters ) connotation richer pun English-Chinese Translation challenging . Since the two languages, there are differences in geography, culture , politics and many other aspects , if you want to find the corresponding source language pun words in the target language is quite difficult or impossible . Therefore, only their specific comparison , in order to seek to achieve the pun function . The pun is a means of creation loved most in the world civilization . As one of the traditional Rhetoric , pun this linguistic phenomenon , deeply rooted in the language and culture . The pun is the use of the word pronunciation and ambiguity to express two layers of meaning : the surface meaning and implied meaning . Pun use in order to achieve a humorous or satirical effect . And in either English or Chinese extensive use of the pun rhetorical . Since different languages ??have different style and expression , the Chinese pun by its language, culture and many other factors , has distinctive characteristics different from English pun . The Chinese pun historic , constantly enrich the content and form development , more and more extensive use of the pun . By Peter Newmark 's communicative translation and semantic translation theory to explore in this article from the function of the expression in the text function , the combination of literary works to make a case analysis , and strive to introduce Chinese pun definitions , scope of application , classification and different periods of literary works pun , so that people have a comprehensive understanding of the Chinese pun . In this paper , the authors focus more attention on the expression text translation Chinese pun of speech . I from its definition parsing of Chinese pun , scope , classification and typical example of this is good for the reader to understand the Chinese pun . Pun translation has been considered by many to be very difficult or impossible . In this paper, several discussion translatability of puns . In this paper, the the Chinese pun characteristics and the English translation of a useful attempt to readers are beneficial to the understanding and use of puns , interpretation of the translation of literary works as well as the Translators pun .
