Abstract


Since the 1990’s of last century, with the rapid development of higher education in China, there are two main modes appeared in institutions of higher learning during the process of leaping development:"merger and reconstruction type" and "self-expansion type". Campus culture constructions under these two modes have their own requirements and share common features as well. While in practice, many colleges and universities don’t merely adopt one of the modes in their development paths. More common practice is the superposition and overlap of those two modes, such as Lanzhou University. Systematic analysis and the study of multi-campus culture construction in Lanzhou University where those two modes coexisted would throw light on the campus culture construction in institutions of higher learning with similar patterns and be a subject worth concern.The literature review, SWOT analysis, personal interviews, comparative analysis, empirical analysis and other methods were used in this paper by means of systematical investigation of the basic concepts of campus culture and objective and scientific understanding and analysis of the basic situation of Lanzhou University’s campus culture construction. On the basis of the references to the educational experience from domestic and foreign multi-campus university and its revelation on campus culture construction, the countermeasures of multi-campus culture construction in Lanzhou University were explored by clarifying the basic ideas of the campus culture reconstruction and integration in institutions of higher learning where the "merger and reconstruction type" and "self-expansion type" coexisted. They are building the basic model of Lanzhou University’s multi-campus culture construction and achieving the overall framework; strengthening the reconstruction and integration of the campus culture from different schools; completing Yuzhong campus’s cultural heritage, integration and innovation with the old campus; promoting cultural and people-oriented management and achieving tolerance between different cultures.
